2013 has started well so far despite few cancellations preventing the intermediates having some runs. This year we have French rider Arthur Chabert based with us which is great. I also have an addition to the team with Opposition Supremacy to get some more experience at 100 and novice level. Good news that opposition detective is back in full swing so all fingers and toes crossed for a safe return to competition life! So far everyone one has performed well and no one has put a foot wrong. Next events will be hambledon and bovington. I wonder my gorgeous 5yr old owned by Claire and Steve wil make her debut next weekend at hambledon. Along with her opposition angel two and opposition Nirvana contest in the 100's and WTTL Opposition Sky Law and opposition Eclipse the TCN **. Opposition supremacy and Tsego d'ayza in the novice at bovington. More posts soon.
Last event of the season was a very busy one for Team Opposition. We were at Aldon from Thursday - Sunday with Opposition Angel Two and Opposition Sky Law for the CCI*. The remaining team travelled too and from each day. Thursday saw the trot up for the CCI and Opposition Sky Law's dressage test, we arrived in time to give Libby a little walk around before the trot up as her dressage was straight after I thought she maybe a little interested to see what was going on, but out the lorry she came like a true professional. Both horses looked beautiful for the trot up thanks to team groom Cayley and passed with flying colours. Libby had her dressage very shortly after seeing as we were number two to go. She was absolutely superb no big mistakes just unfortunately rested a hind leg in two halts giving her 4's from both judges each time, so very very costly but scored a great mark of 46.2, seeing us in 2nd place after the first day.
FRIDAY - was very busy with Tregoodwell coming for the Intermediate, Sporting Opposition for the BE100 three-day and Opposition Angel Two's dressage. Tregoodwell was 1st to go in the intermediate so an early morning test saw the best of the ground. This was his first time out since blenheim and he produced a solid test just with a few minor errors whilst trying to pull his feet out of the mud, he then jumped a super clear showjumping putting us into the lead going into the XC phase, having walked the course I was very happy, however he jumped in very large into the first water and I think scared himself following blenheim as he was not keen on the 2nd. This is not unlike him as water has been known to be scary fence for him. Seeing as it was at the end of the season and I know him inside out to which days he likes to play, today wasn't one so I walked through and will practise lots and lots this winter. I was very very disappointed but he really has made huge improvements this year and can not wait till next year with him, I'm very excited and think he could be my first 4* horses very soon! Sporting Opposition just had her dressage today, considering she did her first test in June the BE100 championship test was actually quite complicated. She was super very rideable in the arena and did some super work to score 37, this left her a little way down the leader board into 32nd it was very close. Opposition Angel Two was near the end to go in the 1* so unfortunately had the worst of the ground and couldn't really cope with all the mud, although an accurate test she struggled to stay balanced and active.
SATURDAY- The busiest days of all..... not only the two girls in the CCI, purdy in the BE100 three day, I also had my super 5yr old in the BE100 national class. Opposition Nirvana was 1st to go in the BE100 and again had the best ground, he did struggle with the mud but again produced a fab test for 31. After walking the SJ very early I thought it must be for another class as it was huge for a 100 but know it wasn't!! Ollie however is the bees knees and jumped a super clear round. Following this up with a clear inside the time saw him to be the winner!! I was truely over the moon with this result only his 3rd event and he's taken it all in his stride.
The three internationals all had fab XC rounds all clear inside the time and made their courses feel very very easy.
SUNDAY - with an early morning trot up for the CCI and 100 they all trotted beautiful if not a little tired. Sporting Opposition was first on lying in 13th after XC, I was a little nervous before seeing as all her background is in SJ I didn't want to have a pole. She did live up to expectations and jumped a cracking round. The two CCI's had a little lunge in the morning seeing as both weren't jumping till late afternoon. Opposition Angel Two the first to go lying about 20th after xc tried very very hard but seemed to be a little tired following her XC and had 3 down which is very unusual for her but seeing as it was her first CCI format I was very pleased with her attitude throughout the weekend and she's got a very exciting future. Finishing in 24th. Opposition Sky Law was 6th going into SJ, although the most talented horses i've ever ridden she's very nervous SJ so was very worried. She was AMAZING gave the fences feet, confident and easy to ride in the ring. She finished on the dressage scored and remained in 6th but the BEST 6yr OLD!
What a way to finish the season, I really can not wait until 2013.
Firstly massive appologies for the lack of contact. Well I don't even really know where to begin....
We've had a very busy last few months with the remainding foals being born, competing and stud duties all of this while Dad has been away in France since June. All babies are doing very well and look like a fab bunch of future stars. I will post some pictures soon.
The olympics how amazing did we all do... makes you so proud to be british, Well done team GB and obviously a massive congratulations to Nicola Wilson and Opposition Buzz! I was very lucky to be invited by the BEF to the showjumping Team finals and what an amazing opportunity that was. You definitely get the olympic bug and 2016 potentials what out because I'm coming through.
Whilst the olympics was on I made full use of the eventings best being absent and made the long trip up to Hopetoun House with Opposition Heracles and Treggodwell for the 2*. It truely paid off with Tregoodwell finishing 2nd by 0.2 of a mark and was the only horse to finish on his dressage score and Opposition Heracles finishing a very credible 8th after a good steady xc. I also took Opposition Sky Law for the Novice as her owners live in scotland so could come and watch. She was superb did a very good dressage despite the conditions for 6 inches of mud, great clear sj but xc I was trying to be clever and avoid the mud and had a very silly stop. Not like her at all but could blame myself for trying to be clever rather than riding the terrain. Unfortunately when we got home she did not seem right so I took some blood tests which showed quite a bad virus so she spent 6 weeks in sick bay and subsequently missed August runs and any chance of qualifying for Le Lion D'angers which is a huge dissappointment but there is always next year.
Opposition Heracles ran at Aston le walls advanced and finished a fantastic 6th, my first advanced and his for sometime so I couldn't have been happier. Although the highs were quickly followed by a low as the routine scan shown some damage to his suspensory so will be off for the 2013 season but I just really hope he comes back... I love that horse!! The upside to the scannings showed that Tregoodwell is in fine shape and all ready for Blenheim and Opposition Detective who has missed the 2012 season is doing very well so all fingers crossed for a good 2013 with him.
Opposition Eclipse has had a great season showing that she can actually do dressage if she tries and has picked up some good placings all year at intermediate except for my graceful dismount at Tweseldown.
The young horses have all been super, with very exciting futures especially Opposition Nirvana and full TRK by Utopian Opposition and Sporting Opposition again by Utopian Opposition who's showjumped until June but has taken to eventing fantasticly and is a serious xc horse.
It has been a fairly busy week, more babies born, four running at Pontispool and I popped over to France for a fleeting 36hrs to try my gorgeous new boy.
Babies, We've had a colt by Utopian Opposition out of a Carnival mare - He really is gorgeous. The girls have named him Austin and Classic Opposition as his show name.
Also very excitingly we've just had another colt born this evening by Fleetwater Opposition out of a full TB mare, photos to follow tomorrow of him, he's a little sleepy as is gorgeous Tracy after giving birth to such a big boy.
Its very exciting to have some colts born as the first lot have all been fillies. So far we have 2 fillies by Opposition Heracles, 1 colt by Opposition Supremacy, 1 colt by Utopian Opposition and 1 colt by Fleetwater Opposition and a filly by Fleetwater Opposition out of the Heraldik mare. We still have two left to foal so fingers crossed.
Tregoodwell had a great run in the Intermediate thanks to Dan, slightly off the pace after the dressage but a good steady double clear saw them pick up 9th place which was fantastic.
Opposition Angel One had her first outing since Portman, running in the novice with Chris Burton. She was a little fresh in the dressage but still scored 33.5 which was very respectable in the section, unfortunately still a little bright going into the Showjumping so she had 8 faults due to greenness but not bad at all considering she hadn't jumped a course since the beginning of April. However, she fly around the xc just adding a few time faults, she looked like an old pro. Opposition Sky Law, my princess. Unfortunately due to my injury she hadn't been out since Aldon at the end of March, but like always she came to do her job. A lovely test left her in 2nd after the dressage on 31 although still lots more marks to be gained. She showjumped very well for a clear round, showing some green moments in the treble which I must say was jolly tricky for a first novice. Unfortunately her and Chris were not on the correct line for a b element and Chris thought it better to come around again rather than make an uncomfortable jump. She popped around the remainder of the course just picking up 7 time faults, so very promising for her next run.Budle Beach ran in the PN with Chris on the Saturday, he did a lovely test which we were very pleased with scoring 34, a very unfortunate 2 down showjumping but showed he had matured a great deal cross country and came home inside the time very happily. Big thank you to Chris and Dan!!
I had planned to go back to pontispool on the monday to school around the course to give my ankle a test but at 6.30 on the saturday evening I had an erika moment and asked whether I could do it that evening to which they said no problem. So I tacked up Opposition Heracles who had just come for a trip in the lorry for company and off I set around the course. I hadn't walked any of the course but I have jumped around pontispool a few times, and watched the guys go so I knew the rough direction. I started with the novice course for the first 3 jumps then went around the intermediate taking all the straight routes, we had a fantastic ride by far one of the best rides together so far. Both of us came through the finish with a big cheeky smile. Good news was the ankle wasn't too bad. I just really hope everything is going the right way now as having an adrenaline rush every now and then just isn't enough.
I popped over at the beginning of the week to have a sit on my new boy. He is a gorgeous Anglo Arab 5 yr old gelding. I'm not going to say to much about him until he's passed the vet. So please all keep your fingers crossed as I am very excited about him.
This week is an exciting one for me my first run back since my operation albeit very early, hope everything holds up. Eridge with Tregoodwell for the NRF and Opposition Eclipse for the ON, then off to Little Downham on Monday and Tuesday for Opposition Angel Two in the OPN, Opposition Sky Law in the Novice and Opposition Heracles in the OI.
Welcome to the Team Opposition blog page....
Opposition Supremacys' First Foal
We had a very exciting phone call from Neil Spratt on Monday saying his 3* star NZ TB mare had foaled during the night to a gorgeous bay colt. Dad and I rushed up to see him, he's very like mummy and daddy. This is a really exciting moment for Team Opposition and Mark Todd. Neil has called him First Supremacy. We shall keep you posted on his progress.
Where do I start; After my second operation on my ankle I am feeling much better, ankle is getting stronger and stronger and I'm now riding for about 3 hours a day. Progressing every day which is great news. Whilst I have been off we've managed to paint the yard a long over due job that hadn't seen a paint brush for many years, the majority is done and it looks fabulous. I've been very lucky to have had a few of my horse go out and compete with Sam Griffiths and Chris Burton all have gone very well and everyone has jumped a double clear each time out. Thanks boys and lots of pressure on me now to continue their success.
Most of all I have had the luxury for Tanya Cleverly come and ride a couple during the week, she is the most beautiful rider and the horses have benefitted enormously.
I had a jump a couple of days ago on Opposition Heracles the beautiful bright bay stallion and jumped over 1.55m not bad considering i've been off for 9 weeks, nothing like a big fence to get your eye in. Silly me forgot to get someone to take a picture - Next time!!!
So the Stud..... Foals
So far this year we have 2 foals by Opposition Heracles one is out of a Sandro Hit mare and the other a very well bred racing mare. Beautiful foals and shall post a picture shortly. We have also had a foal by Fleetwater Opposition out of an Heraldik mare, a little filly who is quite stunning and a very exciting prospect for the future.
